We Lose a Great One

Yesterday morning, I lost a good friend. Steve Hillenburg, Rocko board director and creator of Spongebob Squarepants, passed on from a prolonged illness of ALS at the age of 57. We knew each other from 1992 when we were both making independent films, and I had this weird Nickelodeon show I was trying to staff up.

Today Variety asked me to write a tribute to Steve. I think it says it all.

  1. What a great tribute you wrote to him! I know production on the special has already been completed for almost a year at this point, but is there any chance a title card could be squeezed in dedicated to Steve by the time STATIC CLING premieres?

  2. rocko inspired a bit of my style, and spongebob inspired my structure of my comics. i know i’m WAY too late for this. but sorry for that one.
