Sinterklaas Saves the Day

In Belgium, we celebrate Sinterklaas on December 5th and 6th. A relative of Santa Claus but not quite the same. On the night of the 5th, if you sing loud enough, Sinterklass arrives on his white horse, knocks on your door and leaves a bag of presents for good girls and boys. Well my two boys must have been extra good with all of the Lego toys and Scooby Doo gifts they got, but I also must have been good this year, because Sinterklaas showed me that even living in Europe in the cold, and during covid, you can still show support for your favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants. My dad took me to my first game as a very young boy, and I’m still a fan.

It’s funny though, baseball is not known so much here in Belgium, so my Giants wear is sometimes met with odd looks, but last week I was wearing my Giants hat in a market and I heard a voice in english from across the way say ” YEEEAHHH GIANTS!”.

Made my day.
